Victoria Grizzlies forwards Connor Eddy, Ellis Rickwood and Matthew Wood have been named the FortisBC 3 Stars of the Month for January.

1st Star – Connor Eddy (F) – Victoria Grizzlies

Eddy was the hottest player in the BCHL over the past month, tying for the league lead in scoring with 22 points in eight games and potting a BCHL-high 11 goals.

The Victoria native had points in seven of eight games in January, including a stretch where he netted nine goals in three games. He scored his first career hat trick on Jan. 14 against the Powell River Kings and followed that up with his first career four-goal performance the next game against the Surrey Eagles, a game where he added a pair of assists, totaling six points on the night.

Eddy is the league’s seventh leading scorer with 46 points in 30 games. His 20 goals are tied for ninth in the BCHL and his 26 assists are tied for seventh.

This is the second monthly award for the Northern Michigan University commit after being named 2nd Star of the Month in October.

2nd Star – Ellis Rickwood (F) – Victoria Grizzlies

Rickwood tied his teammate for the league lead in scoring in the month with 22 points in just eight games. His 18 assist in January led the way and were seven more than the next best.

The 19-year-old had a point in all eight of his games last month and has a point streak of 11 games going back to Dec. 11. Going even farther back, he has at least a point in 20 of his last 21 contests. Rickwood had multiple points in six of eight games in January and finished the month with eight points in his final two contests.

The Clarkson University committed forward has climbed into third in BCHL scoring with 52 points in 32 games and his 40 assists are tops in the league.

3rd Star – Matthew Wood (F) – Victoria Grizzlies

Wood finished behind his two linemates for most points in the month, but had the third most with 17 in eight games. His eight goals were tied for third in the league.

The 16-year-old registered at least one point in each January game and is currently riding an 11-game streak overall. Wood had four points on two occasions during the month, including a Jan. 22 game where he recorded his second career BCHL hat trick and added an assist in a win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals. His third goal that game was the overtime winner.

Wood is the league’s leading goal scorer and the first to reach 30 on the season. He also ranks second in points with 54 in 27 games.

This is his second monthly honour after being named the BCHL’s 1st Star of the Month in October.
