Exhibition season underway for four BCHL teams

After a handful of gruelling training camp practices, players got their first opportunity to hit somebody in an opposition jersey this weekend. The BC Hockey League exhibition schedule kicked off Friday night with the opener of back-to-back meetings between the Chiefs and Eagles. On Saturday, Cowichan Valley and Nanaimo met in their first action.

Over the next ten days, the BCHL's 16 teams will combine to play a total of 33 games in preparation for the regular season, which begins Friday, September 5th.

And while it's hard to read too much into exhibition results, it's fair to say that Surrey Eagles head coach Shane Kuss must be happy with his team's performances in 3-2 and 5-3 victories over Langley. Cowichan Valley wrapped weekend action with a 3-2 home ice win over Nanaimo at the Fuller Lake Arena.

Tonight, Burnaby opens its preseason on home ice against Surrey while Alberni Valley does the same at Weyerhaeuser Arena, hosting Victoria.
