Fiorentino earns a spot at Northeastern

The Merritt Centennials are proud to announce 1996-born defenceman Nick Fiorentino has accepted the opportunity to attend and play NCAA Div. I hockey at Northeastern University in Boston starting in the fall.

Fiorentino is in his first and only season in the BCHL, a campaign where to date he leads the Cents blueline in scoring with 7 goals, 28 assists for 35 points. That’s combined with 104 PIM’s.

Nick will join just one BCHL alumni on the Huskies, Ryan Rosenthal who played for the Coquitlam Express in 2013-2014. Vernon Vipers defenceman Darren Rizzolo is committed to Northeastern for the 2017-18 season.

“I’m happy for Nick; he’s getting a chance to play for a program he grew up only dreaming about and the drive to watch him play next season for his parents from Hartsdale, N.Y. will be much shorter than it is now, something I’m sure they’re excited about,” said Merritt bench boss Joe Martin. “We wish Nick, and the Fiorentino family all the best in the future.”

Northeastern competes in the NCAA’s Hockey East conference against opponents Boston College, Notre Dame, New Hampshire, Vermont, Boston University, Merrimack, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, UMass-Lowell and Providence.
