Five BCHLers on latest Central Scouting list

Surrey Eagles forward Spencer Bennett highlights a list of five BC Hockey League prospects listed by NHL Central Scouting on the organiztion's 2009 Midterm Draft Rankings.

Bennett, who has scored 14 goals and added 15 assists in 42 games, is ranked 93rd amongst North American skaters. Bennett was present at the CJHL Prospects Game in Summerside, PEI in December.

Prince George Spruce Kings blueliner Wes McLeod is next at 119th. McLeod will represent the Spruce Kings at this week's BCHL All-Star Game in Vernon after posting four goals and 22 assists through 44 games.

Another All-Star, Penticton Vees forward Curtis McKenzie, checks in at 158th. McKenzie represented Team Canada West at the 2008 World Junior A Challenge and skated at the CJHL Prospects Game. He sits second in Vees scoring with 17 goals and 26 assists in 37 games.

Vernon Vipers forward Cory Kane and Cowichan Valley Capitals blueliner Curtis Gedig round out the rankings at 162nd and 165th respectively. Kane has scored 17 goals in his rookie season in the BCHL while Gedig is a steady force on the blueline who has chipped in 13 points this season.

As well, a pair of former BC Hockey Leaguers goaltenders appear in the rankings. Former Westside Warriors Nathan Lieuwen is rated the 12th best North American goaltending prospect while ex-Prince George Spruce Kings counterpart Damien Ketlo counts in at 24th. Lieuwen is in his first full season with the Kootenay Ice while Ketlo plays for the WHL's Regina Pats.

Central Scouting will release its final Draft Rankings in April and the 2009 NHL Entry Draft will be held in Montreal on June 19th.
