Victoria Grizzlies goaltender Paolo Frasca, Cowichan Valley Capitals defenceman Carter Dekay and Okotoks Oilers goaltender Eric Young have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week, ending Oct. 12.
1st Star – Paolo Frasca (G) – Victoria Grizzlies
Frasca started twice for Victoria last week, winning both contests while stopping 62 of a combined 63 shots for a .984 save percentage, a 0.50 goals-against average and one shutout.
The 2006-born netminder stopped 25 of 26 shots last Friday in a 4-1 home win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals and was named first star of the game. On Sunday morning, in the opener of the the 2025 BCHL Showcase in Abbotsford, Frasca was credited for his third shoutout of the young season, stopping all 37 shots he faced and earning first star for the second straight contest in a 5-0 victory over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
The Toronto, Ont. product has a 3-1-0 record in six appearances this season with a .946 save percentage, most among goaltenders with at least three appearances.
2nd Star – Carter Dekay (D) – Cowichan Valley Capitals
Dekay tied for the league lead in both points and goals last week, finishing with three goals, one assist and four points in a trio of games.
After being held off the score sheet in a 1-0 loss to the Nanaimo Clippers last Wednesday afternoon, the 19-year-old collected an assist on Friday in his team’s 4-1 loss to the Victoria Grizzlies. A night later, Dekay notched his first career BCHL hat trick, scoring three straight times for the Capitals as they defeated the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 5-2 on the road. One of his three goals came on the power play and he was named the first star of the game.
The Northern Michigan University commit now has five goals on the year to tie for the lead among defencemen. He also has eight point in nine games, tied for fifth among blueliners and just two back of top spot.
3rd Star – Eric Young (G) – Okotoks Oilers
Young was victorious in both of his starts for the Oilers last week, stopping 55 of 58 shots for a .948 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average.
On Friday, the Mill Bay, B.C. native stopped 24 of 26 shots in a 5-2 road win over the Surrey Eagles. Two days later, in his team’s first game at the BCHL Showcase, Young made 31 saves on 32 shots and was named first star in a 5-1 Okotoks triumph against the Chilliwack Chiefs.
The 19-year-old is a perfect 4-0 in four appearances with the Oilers this year and has yet to allow more than two goals in a single game. His 1.74 goals-against average is tops among goalies with a minimum of three games played, while his .942 save percentage ranks second.
