Gleekel inks deal with Saints

GleekelThe Merritt Centennials are pleased to announce to commitment of forward Cade Gleekel to the St. Lawrence University Saints for the 2017-18 season.

“We’re happy for Cade to commit to the Saints program,” said Cents General Manager and Head Coach Joe Martin. “It’s still early here in the season, but I believe the staff at St. Lawrence is receiving a great player and a great person.

“We look forward to having Cade play in Merritt this season.”

Gleekel, 18, joins the Centennials from Benilde-St. Margaret’s School in St. Louis Park, Minn. The Minneapolis native had a very solid season in U.S. High School hockey in 2015-16, posting 58 points (22 goals, 36 assists) in 23 games. In 132 career USHS games over four seasons, Gleekel totalled 171 points (78 goals, 93 assists). Gleekel is the fourth player on this season’s Centennials roster to secure an NCAA scholarship.

St. Lawrence University is located in Canton, N.Y. and was founded in 1856. The Saints Men’s Hockey Team has won the ECAC championship six times and notable alumni include Mike Keenan, Ray Shero and Bill Torrey.

BCHL grads on the Saints roster for the coming season are Ben Masell, Michael Ederer, Jacob Pritchard and Mitch Eden.
