Grizzlies’ grad Benn signs first pro deal with Stars

Former Victoria Grizzlies forward Jamie Benn has taken a significant step towards a career in the National Hockey League, signing a three-year entry level contract with the Dallas Stars. The deal adds to a tremendous summer for the 18 year-old, who is set to attend a Team Canada Under-20 Evaluation Camp later in July.

“We're very excited to sign Jamie to an entry level contract,” Stars Co-General Manager Les Jackson said. “Jamie is a talented hockey player with a solid work ethic and we will continue to work with him as he develops to hopefully play one day for the Dallas Stars. He has a bright future ahead of him.”

Benn was the Stars' fifth round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft. Last season, he led the Kelowna Rockets with 33 goals in his first season in the Western Hockey League.
