Harbinson adds GM title to head coaching duties

Penticton Vees head coach Fred Harbinson has been appointed the team's General Manager, the club announced Tuesday.

Harbinson, who took over behind the Vees' bench prior to the 2007 season, was named the Interior Conference Coach of the Year in his first year in the league. He also led the Vees to the Fred Page Cup Championship in April.

“We feel Fred has done an outstanding job in his role as head coach and VP of Player Personnel and we want to make it clear to our players, recruits and their families that we have a very strong leader in our hockey operations,” Vees Managing Partner Neil Jamieson said.

“Giving Fred the title of General Manager will underline our support as an ownership group. As managing partner I still retain the ultimate control over the team – but as General Manager, Fred will live and die by his decisions and we have full confidence in his abilities as coach and General Manager,” added Jamieson.

“This move was made after consultations with other members of the ownership group and it is the intent of the owners to underline their confidence in Fred to operate the hockey operations based on the history and tradition of the Penticton Vees – we are looking for young men who demonstrate Courage, Character, and Commitment. That is Fred’s mandate from the owners,” summarized Jamieson.
