Howarth commits to ‘Cats

KHowarthAlready well on his way to new BCHL highs in goals and points, Trail Smoke Eaters forward Kale Howarth can add another line to his hockey bio – a college hockey commitment to Northern Michigan University.

Howarth accepted the NMU offer last week and will head to campus next season. The 6-foot-5, 205-pounder has seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 12 games so far this season. He put up 12-15-27 in 53 games last season.

The native of Red Deer, Alta. is the first BCHL to commit to NMU this season. Last year, four players committed to the Wildcats program in Demico Hannoun, Luke Voltin, Darien Craighead and Tyger Howat.

NMU competes in the NCAA’s Div. I Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) against rivals Michigan Tech, Lake Superior State, Bowling Green, Bemidji State, Alabama-Huntsville, Alaska, Alaska-Anchorage and Ferris State.

Full list of BCHL players on the Wildcats roster this season, in addition to the ones listed above, includes Rylan Yaremko, Brock Maschmeyer, Zach Diamantoni, Adam Rockwood and Jordan Klimek.

NMU is located in Marquette, Mich. in the state’s upper peninsula. Wildcats alums to play in the NHL include Mike Santorelli, Steve Weeks, Steve Bozek, Brad Werenka, Dallas Drake and Tom Laidlaw.
