Interior Finals Update: SilverBacks on the brink

The Salmon Arm SilverBacks are one game away from playoff elimination, but they'll have the opportunity to push the Vernon Vipers to a seventh game on home ice Saturday night.

In Vernon on Friday, the Vipers took the series lead with a 3-0 win after netminder Andrew Hammond turned aside 43 shots for a shutout victory.

Kellen Jones opened the scoring for the home side mid-way through the first period, but the Vipers would have to wait until Rob Short tallied with less and seven minutes remaining in regulation to pick up the insurance marker. Short potted a second goal into an empty net to salt away the win. SilverBacks goaltender Bryan Gillis stopped 30 shots in a losing cause.

The Vipers will have the chance to wrap the series on the road on Saturday, while Salmon Arm will have an opportunity to send the series back to Vernon for a potential Game 7 on Tuesday. The puck drops at 7:30 PM from the Sunwave Centre.
