West Kelowna Warriors forward Ruslan Jamaldinov, Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Kole Keen and Powell River Kings forward Ryan Hedley have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Ruslan Jamaldinov (F) – West Kelowna Warriors
Jamaldinov led all BCHL players with six points last week, scoring four goals and adding a pair of assists over three contests.
The product of Lulea, Sweden registered his first career multi-point game in the BCHL last Tuesday, putting up a goal and a helper in the first period of his team’s 5-3 home victory over the Vernon Vipers. On Friday night, Jamaldinov bested that total with three points on two goals and an assist in an 8-3 road triumph over the Blackfalds Bulldogs. He capped off his week with one goal in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Okotoks Oilers the following night.
The 20-year-old finds himself one back of the league lead with five goals on the season. He is also tied for the Warriors points lead with seven in five games.
2nd Star – Kole Keen (F) – Cowichan Valley Capitals
Keen’s four goals in two games tied for the league lead last week, helping the Capitals to a 1-1 record.
On Friday, the second-year forward scored twice as Cowichan attempted to mount a five-goal comeback, but fell short, losing 7-4 to the Nanaimo Clippers for their first defeat of the season. The next night, Keen again scored twice and was named first star of the game in a 6-3 home win against the Powell River Kings.
The White City, Sask. native now has six goals on the campaign to lead the BCHL, while his nine points in six games are tied for sixth in the league, just two back of top spot.
3rd Star – Ryan Hedley (F) – Powell River Kings
Hedley totaled five points in two games last week, collecting two goals and three assists over that stretch.
The rookie forward scored his first goal in the BCHL on Saturday night midway through the second period of his team’s 6-3 road loss to the Cowichan Valley Capitals. He rode that momentum into Powell River’s Sunday afternoon date with the Victoria Grizzlies where he registered his first multi-point outing in the league, finishing with a goal and three helpers as the Kings won their first game of the season, an 8-5 final against the Victoria Grizzlies.
Hedley’s five points this year have him in a tie for the team lead in scoring.
