A pair of BCHL alums are champions of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
Victoria Grizzlies product Justin Courtnall and former Penticton Vees netminder Joel Rumpel won the Kelly Cup with the Allen Americans Thursday after a 4-2 home win over the Wheeling Nailers.
The Americans, based in Allen, Texas, are an affiliate of the San Jose Sharks.
Rumpel signed with San Jose last year after a four-year NCAA at Wisconsin. As a member of the Vees from 2009 to 2011, he registered a 46-15-3 record to go with a 2.33 goals-against average and .914 save percentage.
Courtnall was a seventh-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2007 before going on to an NCAA career at Boston University and signing as a pro with the Boston Bruins organization in 2012. The son of former NHLer Geoff Courtnall, Justin scored 46 goals and 82 assists in 184 BCHL games.
