Kings alum Garbowsky earns share of Atlantic Hockey POW

When you're the captain, expectations are elevated with respect to what you deliver for your team but Matt Garbowsky managed to surpass expectations last weekend in earning a share of the Atlantic Hockey player of the week with RIT.

The former Powell River Kings standout notched his second hat trick of the season and added a helper while winning 20 of 24 faceoffs in an 8-0 rout of conference foe Mercyhurst. The next night, he continued his outstanding work in the circle with a 25-of-36 showing in helping the Tigers to a 2-1 overtime victory.

Garbowsky was 45-of-60 on faceoffs in the two games, an absurd 75 per cent success rate.

The native of St. George, Ont. is now second in NCAA Div. I hockey with 24 goals and is fourth with 46 points and leads all players with 594 faceoff wins.

With the Kings, Garbowsky was the 2011 Coastal Conference MVP after posting 44 goals and 36 assists. Over two seasons in Powell River, he had 71 goals and 62 assists for 133 points in 107 games.
