Király, Stoesser, Zol named finalists for Top Goaltender Award

Olivér Király (Blackfalds Bulldogs), Rhett Stoesser (Cowichan Valley Capitals) and Angelo Zol (West Kelowna Warriors) have been named finalists for the 2025-26 Michael Garteig Trophy as the BCHL’s Top Goaltender.

Olivér Király – Blackfalds Bulldogs

Király’s 2.30 goals-against average was the second lowest in the league this season, while his .906 save percentage ranked third. The Hungarian international finished 2025-26 with a 14-6-2 record, helping guide Blackfalds to the biggest improvement in the standings among all BCHL teams.

The 19-year-old also recorded four shutouts on the year, third most in the league. He began his BCHL career in impressive fashion, recording a shutout in three of his first five games and winning eight of his first nine starts. His best performance of the campaign came on Oct. 25 when he stopped all 27 shots he faced in a win against the Cranbrook Bucks where he recorded his second shutout of the season.

Rhett Stoesser – Cowichan Valley Capitals

Stoesser finished his 2025-26 campaign with a 2.50 goals-against average, good enough for fourth best in the BCHL, and earned 26 wins, which was third most in the league. The 2005-born netminder also had a .900 save percentage and two shutouts on the season.

In his first two starts of the year, Stoesser recorded back-to-back shutouts, stopping a combined 45 shots across both games. He also registered nine straight wins from Nov. 8 to Jan. 2, helping the Capitals extend their lead in the Coastal West Division standings and eventually finish first place.

Angelo Zol – West Kelowna Warriors

Zol led the BCHL in almost every statistical goaltending category in 2025-26, including shutouts (six), save percentage (.925) and goals-against average (1.98). His 27 wins in 36 appearances were the second most in the league and his 2,179 minutes played were fourth.

The Kelowna, B.C. native had his best stretch of the season from Dec. 6 to 13 when he recorded two shutouts in three games and three straight victories where he gave up a combined one goal. Zol won his first seven starts of the season and did not look back from there as he was a big part of West Kelowna’s Ron Boileau Memorial Trophy win as the league’s top team in the regular season.

Zol and his goaltender partner Bor Glavič have already won this year’s Wally Forslund Memorial Trophy as the goaltending duo playing for team with the lowest goals-against average.

Finalists were determined after a vote among the 20 BCHL head coaches and general managers. Winners will be announced between Rounds 2 and 3 of the playoffs.
