LaFontaine takes BCHLPOW

Penticton Vees goalie Jack LaFontaine has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 20, the league announced Monday.

LaFontaine turned aside 111 of 116 shots over three road games, each of which the Vees won in the shootout where the netminder was just as good as he made 16 saves on 18 shootout attempts. The Mississauga, Ont. native made 35 or more saves in each game including 39 of 40 in a 2-1 win in Merritt on Jan. 20 where he was named 1st Star. For the three-game road trip, LaFontaine posted a .957 save percentage and a 1.54 goals-against average.

He also took 2nd Star honours in a 3-2 win in Wenatchee where he made 37 stops. LaFontaine is now second in the BCHL in both save percentage (.921) and goals-against average (2.16) and is fourth in minutes played (1,997).
