Joey LaLeggia seems to be in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference headlines every week with the University of Denver, while David Morley has quietly had a very nice season at St. Cloud State.
This past weekend however, both were recognized by the conference for their outstanding play for the respective schools.
LaLeggia scored and had an assist in a Feb. 13 loss to North Dakota and added another helper in a 3-3 draw the next night. The Burnaby, BC product had eight shots on goal for the weekend and was +1 for the series.
In two seasons with the Penticton Vees, Laleggia scored 33 goals and 114 assists for 147 points in 114 career games over two seasons.
Morley's award was the first of his junior season, which has been a very good one for St. Cloud State. The Richmond Hill, Ont. native now has 11 goals and 11 assists in 27 games after a two-goal, two-assist weekend. The Victoria Grizzlies alumnus helped the Huskies to a split against Minnesota-Duluth. Morley dished out two assists in a 4-2 loss Feb. 13 and then tallied the first two goals of the game on the way to a 4-1 victory.
With the Grizzlies, Morley had 25 goals and 51 assists in 52 games.
