The BCHL announced today that Langley Rivermen and Surrey Eagles volunteer John Davidson has been named the December Volunteer of the Month, presented by Rogers.
Each month during the season, the BCHL will recognize one team volunteer whose dedication to their organization and their community goes above and beyond.
Davidson’s many roles as volunteer include goal judge, 50/50, working the penalty box and checking tickets at the front door.
“It’s one of my favourite things, to come out and meet people,” said Davidson. “I’ve made a lot of friends. Everybody [at the rink] knows me.”
“This is amazing. I never thought I would receive an award like this.”
Davidson has volunteered with the Rivermen the past eight seasons and has also been a volunteer with the Eagles since their inaugural season in Surrey in 1991.
“John means a lot,” said Dana Matheson, co-owner of the Rivermen. “It’s absolutely necessary in junior hockey to have a passionate volunteer base that shows up every game, night in and night out.”
“[He is] just a real community guy and a great person who will always do whatever is needed.”
“It is with immense gratitude and appreciation that we recognize John for his unwavering commitment as a volunteer with the Eagles over the years,” said Saje Brar, alternate governor for the Eagles. “John has been an integral part of our organization, offering his time, energy and expertise to ensure the success and spirit of our club. His contributions have touched the lives of so many and we are truly lucky to have him by our side.”
