Late winner from Alex Szczechura keys Vees to victory over Langley

Alex Szczechura came through when it mattered most on Saturday night, scoring the game winner on a late third period power-play Saturday night to give the Penticton Vees back-to-back wins in their weekend series with the Langley Chiefs.

Szczechura beat Langley netminder Andrew Walsh at the 17:16 mark of the third, converting a set-up from Bo Dolan to put the Vees ahead 2-1. The Penticton winner came after 40 minutes of scoreless hockey, as Logan Johnston and Tim Daly had traded goals in the first period prior to a goal-free second frame.

Penticton starter Joel Rumpel picked up his second win in as many nights, turning side 24 shots. Walsh took the hard-luck loss after a 27-save effort.

Dolan, Daly and Szczechura were named the game's three stars.

The Vees are next in action on Wednesday when they host the Victoria Grizzlies, while Langley returns to the ice when they make a brief trip to the Interior to face the Westside Warriors.
