Dear BCHL fans,
First off, we want to thank you for your patience and for your continued support during this unusual and challenging time.
The BC Hockey League Office and the Return to Play Task Force have been hard at work for the past nine months trying to come up with a plan to get our players on the ice to conduct a competitive 2020-21 season. Although there have been numerous obstacles along the way, we continue to be committed to this goal and will push forward with the best interests of our players and fans in mind.
We know everyone is looking for certainty, but, unfortunately, in a pandemic, that is in short supply.
We would also like to assure you that we are doing everything possible to put the safety of our players, staff and billet families first. Our COVID-19 Safety Plan was approved by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) in September and has proven to work effectively from September to November when we successfully completed 90 exhibition games without any transmissions.
The current restrictions have made things difficult for us, but we are confident that with a vaccine being rolled out and with our effective Safety Plan, we will be back on the ice sooner rather than later. We are not here to give false hope, but we feel that waiting it out, rather than throwing in the towel, is the best chance we have.
So again, thank you for your patience throughout this difficult year. We want nothing more than to be back on the ice and playing hockey in front of our fans.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and here’s to a better year in 2021.
Sincerely,
Chris Hebb
Commissioner, BC Hockey League
