No BCHL goalie has played more minutes than Bailey MacBurnie this season and he’s parlayed the playing time into an NCAA Div. I scholarship.
The Trail Smoke Eaters goalie and Beverly, Massachusetts product has accepted an offer to play for Sacred Heart University starting next season.
MacBurnie has seven more appearances than any other netminder in the league this season and has played 2,301 minutes, fashioning a 15-26 record with a 3.76 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage. He’s also had one shutout.
This will be his only season in the BCHL. The 20-year-old moved west after a year of prep hockey at Salisbury School.
At Sacred Heart, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound backstop will join a Pioneers program that competes in the NCAA’s Atlantic Hockey Association along with AIC, Army, Air Force, Bentley, Robert Morris, RIT, Holy Cross, Niagara, Canisius and Mercyhurst.
MacBurnie will join the Pioneers next season along with Coquitlam Express forward Austin McIlmurray. Former BCHLers on the Pioneers current roster are Josh Phillips, Coltyn Hansen, Spencer Graboski and Brett Magnus.
