As one of the youngest players on an Alberni Valley Bulldogs roster which is the youngest in the league, Keaton Mastodonato has had responsibility put on his shoulders sooner than most.
But the Powell River native is thriving in his role and has earned himself an NCAA future at Canisius College.
The 2000-born forward is tied for the team lead with 12 goals on the season and has 27 points in 43 games overall. That type of production at a young age is rare and it caught the eye of coaches at Canisius though currently Mastrodonato is set to play one more BCHL season before heading to play for the Golden Griffins.
At Canisius, Mastrodonato will join a program that competes in the NCAA’s Atlantic Hockey Association along with Mercyhurst, AIC, Air Force, Bentley, Army West Point, Niagara, Robert Morris, RIT, Sacred Heart and Holy Cross.
The Golden Griffins roster this season includes BCHL alums Matt Stief, Matt Hoover and Nick Hutchison.
Canisius is coached by first-year head man Trevor Large and the school’s campus is located in Buffalo, N.Y.
