Merritt’s Zakall named High School POM

Merritt Centennials defenceman Talon Zakall has been named the BCHL High School Player of the Month for November.

This award is for players 18-years-old or younger who are attending high school full time and is based on in-class and on-ice performance.

The 17-year-old enjoyed a productive month on the ice last month, scoring three goals and chipping in with another six assists for nine points to lead all Cents defencemen. He had two multi-point efforts in the month, including a goal, an assist and a third-star honour in a win against the Wenatchee Wild on Nov. 23.

In the classroom, Zakall received an A letter grade in five of his six Grade 11 classes last year at Merritt Secondary, including 95 per cent in both Chemistry and Biology, 94 per cent in French and 93 per cent in Social Studies.

This year he is once again enrolled at Merritt Secondary, taking several challenging courses, including Anatomy & Physiology, Calculus and Chemistry.

Playing for his hometown team in Merritt, Zakall has 12 points in 28 games this season, tying him for the team lead in defencemen scoring.
