Michaelian heading to Ferris State

Like his twin brother, Victoria Grizzlies forward Justin Michaelian has secured a future in NCAA Div. I hockey for the coming season.

Michaelian has committed to play at Ferris State University (FSU) next season in his native Michigan. His brother Brendon, a defenceman who this past season captained the North American Hockey League’s Amarillo Bulls, also landed a commitment but will play at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh.

Brendon’s commitment came in January while Justin’s was more recent with the news breaking in late June.

Justin, a 6-foot, 185-pound forward, posted 24 goals and 20 assists while playing 48 games this past season for the Grizzlies. For his BCHL career, he winds up with 31 goals and 36 assists for 67 points in 101 games.

At FSU, he will join a Bulldogs program that competes in the NCAA’s Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) along with Alaska, Alabama-Huntsville, Alaska-Anchorage, Bemidji State, Lake Superior State, Minnesota State, Bowling Green, Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech.

Last season, the Bulldogs featured three BCHL alums on their roster in 2015 BCHL scoring champ Corey Mackin, Drew Dorantes and Lucas Finner.

Michaelian joins Wenatchee Wild blueliner and 2018 BCHL Top Defenceman Cooper Zech as recruits to Ferris State for the coming season.
