After a year apprenticing as a complementary offensive player for the Wenatchee Wild, Sam Morton has stepped into a more prominent role this year and it’s led to a NCAA future.
Morton has committed to play Div. I hockey at Union College for next season. The native of Lafayette, Colo. has 8-9-17 in 19 games so far this season after posting 7-18-25 in 43 games last season a rookie in the BCHL.
At Union, Morton will be joining a program that competes in the NCAA’s ECAC Hockey conference. The Dutchmen’s rivals there are Colgate, Cornell, Clarkson, St. Lawrence, Harvard, Yale, Brown, RPI, Princeton, Dartmouth and Quinnipiac.
Union won the 2014 NCAA national title when they had several BCHL alums on the roster including captain Mat Bodie. They continue to recruit frequently from the BCHL and this season will have league alums Brett Supinski, Darion Hanson, Brendan Taylor, Cole Maier, Ryan Burton and Ryan Scarfo (captain) on their roster.
The campus for Union College is located in Schenectady, N.Y. and the team’s head coach is Rick Bennett.
