Murphy secures future at Fitchburg State

Trail Smoke Eaters forward Ryan Murphy has committed to the Fitchburg State University Falcons for the 2018-19 season.

Murphy had 11 goals and 28 points over his two seasons in the BCHL. During the 2018 playoffs, Murphy added five points while helping the Smoke Eaters reach the Interior Conference finals. Murphy was also named the team’s Most Dedicated Player this past season for his contributions to the team and community.

Fitchburg State is part of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) which is an NCAA Div. III conference. In 2017-18 the Falcons won the MASCAC title and advanced to the Div. III championship tournament.

“I am very excited to continue playing hockey next year for the MASCAC champions, Fitchburg State University,” Murphy said in an article posted on the Trail Smoke Eaters website. “My two years as a Smoke Eater are something I will remember forever and I owe that all to my teammates and the community for their undying support. I especially would like to thank my family and everyone who has supported me, following my dream.”

The Smoke Eaters forward is the only BCHL player committed to Fitchburg for 2018-19.
