NCAA Roundup: 3 alums take weekly honours

It was a quiet week in the NCAA with only three conferences handing out weekly awards, but a BCHL alum was still honoured in each one.

Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week

Nick Hutchison – Senior – Canisius College (Salmon Arm Silverbacks)

Hutchison tallied six points on three goals and three assists in helping lead Canisius to a sweep of Holy Cross last weekend. He had a goal and two assists in the series-opening 5-2 win. On Sunday, he assisted on the game’s opening goal and scored the final two goals, including the game-winner, to finish the sweep. He also became the sixth player in Canisius’ Division I era to reach 50 goals for his career.

The Hicksville, N.Y. native played two seasons in Salmon Arm, totaling 52 points in 63 career regular-season games.

ECAC Rookie of the Week

Jayden Lee – Freshman – Quinnipiac University (Powell River Kings)

Lee scored his first-career goal on Saturday night, helping Quinnipiac earn a 3-1 win over Princeton in the front end of a home-and-home series. The 18-year-old defenceman from North Vancouver was never on the ice for a goal against.

Lee played two years in the BCHL, the first with the Langley Rivermen and the second with Powell River. His breakout season came last year with the Kings where he had 36 points in 55 games to finish tied for 12th in scoring among all BCHL blueliners.

Hockey East Rookie of the Week

Jacques Bouquot – Freshman – University of Vermont (Chilliwack Chiefs)

Bouquot led all Hockey East rookies with three points last weekend, including two game-winning assists that powered Vermont to the 2019 Catamount Cup title. In Saturday’s 2-0 win, Bouqout dished out the game-opening assist and gave the Cats an insurance goal into an empty net with just 1:25 left to play.

After starting last year with the Wenatchee Wild, the 19-year-old played the majority of the season with Chilliwack, finishing the season with 29 points in 36 regular-season games.
