Despite a quiet week in college hockey with teams starting their holiday breaks, there were two BCHL alumni who were honoured with weekly awards in the NCAA.
NCHC Goaltender of the Week
Quentin Miller – Freshman – University of Denver (Chilliwack Chiefs)
Miller continued his stellar play of late to earn his second straight Goaltender of the Week award, backstopping Denver to a split at St. Cloud State. The Montreal Canadiens draft pick started the weekend strong, stopping 37 of 38 shots in a 5-1 win on Friday. He made 16 of those saves in the second period and was tabbed Second Star of the Game. The next night, Miller totaled 28 saves in a 4-3 loss. He finished the weekend with an conference-high 65 saves. He posted a .929 save percentage and a 2.60 goals-against average, both of which led all NCHC goalies who played two games last weekend.
The Montreal, Que. native played the 2024-25 campaign with the Chilliwack Chiefs where he suited up for 10 regular season games down the stretch after returning from injury, posting a .923 save percentage, 2.29 goals-against average and an 8-2-0 record. In the playoffs, he was strong as well, going 14-9-0 with a .925 save rate, guiding the Chiefs to the championship series.
ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week
Nathan Morin (F) – Freshman – Dartmouth College (Salmon Arm/Chilliwack)
Morin posted one goal, one assist and was plus-three on the weekend. On Friday night against Army West Point, Morin found assisted on the second goal of the game in a 3-0 shutout victory. The next night, Morin scored the first Big Green goal in the second period to tie the game 1-1, but it was not enough as Dartmouth’s win streak came to an end, losing 3-2 in overtime to New Hampshire.
The 2004-born forward spent four seasons in the BCHL, playing 211 regular season games split between the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and the Chilliwack Chiefs. He totaled 49 goals and 118 points in that time and helped the Chiefs reach the championship series his final year in the league.
