NCAA Roundup: Feb. 25

It was another banner week for BCHL alumni playing Division I hockey. Find out who was recognized with weekly accolades in the latest NCAA Roundup.

Hockey East Player of the Week

Josh Nadeau (F) – Junior – University of Maine (Penticton Vees)

Nadeau led the NCAA in goals (five) and was second in points (eight) over a 2-0-0 weekend for Maine. He had back-to-back four-point games, recording three goals and one assist on Friday and a two goals and two helpers on Saturday. He had one power-play marker, 11 shots on net and a plus-five rating to go with his eight points.

Nadeau played two season in the BCHL with the Penticton Vees from 2021 to 2023, winning back-to-back championships. In 2022-23, he finished second in the BCHL with 44 goals, 66 assists and 110 points in 54 games. That postseason, he tied for the league lead with 35 points in 17 games on 16 goals and a league-best 19 helpers. At season’s end, he was awarded the Bob Fenton Trophy as the BCHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player.

NCHC Defenceman of the Week

Abram Wiebe – Junior – University of North Dakota (Chilliwack Chiefs)

Wiebe earned his third straight Defenceman of the Week honour, helping North Dakota to a tie and win against St. Cloud State. The Calgary Flames prospect recorded multiple points both nights against the Huskies and has now notched three straight multi-point games. In Friday’s opener, Wiebe handed out a pair of helpers, including on the late, game-tying goal to force overtime. The next night in a 6-4 victory, he scored UND’s first goal to tie the game before picking up a primary assist when his shot was deflected for a goal to make it 3-1.

The Mission, B.C. native played three seasons with the Chilliwack Chiefs from 2020 to 2023 and was team captain his final year. He notched 95 points in 131 career regular-season games. In 2022-23, Wiebe led his team in scoring with 53 points, which was second among all BCHL blueliners, and was named the winner of the league’s Top Defenceman Trophy.

ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week

Hayden Stavroff – Sophomore – Dartmouth College (Salmon Arm/Alberni Valley)

On Friday night, Stavroff scored two goals (including the game winner), and tallied one assist in Dartmouth’s 3-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The next day, he scored his NCAA Division I best 25th and 26th goals of the season in this team’s 3-3 tie against Union College. It is the most goals a Big Green player has scored in a season since 1978-79 season. Stavroff has now tallied multiple points in three straight games and has 11 points in the last six, leading Dartmouth in goals (26) and points (41) and is second in assists (15).

Stavroff played two seasons in the BCHL from 2022 to 2024, the first with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and the second with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. He enjoyed a breakout season in his year with the Bulldogs, leading the BCHL with 35 goals on the season and finishing tied for seventh in league scoring with 55 points in 46 games.

ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week

Sam LeDrew (F) – Freshman – St. Lawrence University (West Kelowna Warriors)

LeDrew tallied two goals and two assists last weekend. On Friday night, he scored the Saints second goal and the eventual game winner, also assisting on the final goal of the game in a 3-1 win over Brown. The following night, LeDrew netted the first goal of the game on a power play, while also posting an assist in a 5-2 win over Yale.

The 2005-born forward played the 2024-25 season with the West Kelowna Warriors where he suited up for 50 regular season games and contributed a team-high 25 goals to go along with 22 assists and 47 points.

Big Ten 3rd Star of the Week

Eli Pulver – Sophomore – University of Wisconsin (Surrey/Salmon Arm)

Pulver stopped a combined 44 of 47 shots over the weekend, helping Wisconsin to a split against Michigan. He backstopped the Badgers to a 4-1 win last Friday, before allowing two goals in a 3-1 defeat the following night, holding the NCAA’s top scoring team — averaging 4.53 goals per game — to three goals over two contests. He finished his week with a 1.54 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage.

The 22-year-old netminder played three BCHL seasons from 2021 to 2024, the first two with the Surrey Eagles and his last with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. In 2022-23, Pulver posted the best save percentage in the league with a mark of .930 and led the BCHL with six shutouts. He was named a Second-Team All-Star in both his second and third seasons.
