Big Ten 1st Star of the Week
Christian Fitzgerald – Junior – University of Wisconsin (Surrey Eagles)
Fitzgerald netted three goals last week as Wisconsin claimed four of six points from Michigan. He scored twice last Friday to help the Badgers recover from a two-goal deficit in a 5-4 victory, recording the game-winning goal with 3:09 left in regulation. Fitzgerald then scored on Saturday in a 4-4 overtime tie that saw Wisconsin rally from two goals down, finishing the weekend series with a plus-three rating and two blocked shots.
The Coquitlam, B.C. native played two seasons with the Surrey Eagles from 2019 to 2021. During the 2020-21 pod season, Fitzgerald led the BCHL in scoring with 33 points in 19 games and was named the Coquitlam Pod MVP.
ECAC Hockey Defender of the Week
C.J. Foley – Sophomore – Dartmouth College (Salmon Arm Silverbacks)
Last week against Colgate and Cornell, Foley scored two goals and delivered two assists. The 2023-24 ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year has emerged as a key player for the Big Green, currently ranking second on the team with 20 points. Foley tied his career high in points last weekend in twelve fewer games than his freshman year.
The 20-year-old played the 2022-23 campaign with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks where he led the team in points from the back end, putting up seven goals and 20 assists in 48 regular-season games. He was also productive during Salmon Arm’s postseason run, contributing eight points in 14 games.
