CCHA Forward of the Week
Liam Malmquist – Senior – University of St. Thomas (Penticton Vees)
Malmquist led CCHA skaters with six points last week, scoring five goals, including a hat trick, with one assist in a Mason Cup Quarterfinal sweep of Ferris State. He had one shorthanded goal and one game-winner. He totaled nine shots on goal for the weekend, with two of his tallies coming in a 7-3 win on Friday, before having a hand in all four Tommies goals in a 4-3 victory on Saturday.
The Edina, Minn. native played two BCHL seasons with the Penticton Vees from 2019 to 2021, totaling 64 points in 78 games.
Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week
Ajeet Gundarah (G) – Freshman – Sacred Heart University (Langley/Surrey)
Gundarah led the Pioneers to the semifinals of the Atlantic Hockey tournament by stopping 113 of 118 shots against Air Force in the quarterfinals, for a .958 save percentage. He stopped 29 of 30 shots in Friday’s 4-1 win, then made a career-high 55 saves on 58 shots in Saturday’s 3-2 overtime defeat. In Sunday’s winner-take-all Game 3, Gundarah stood tall, making 29 saves on 30 shots in SHU’s 4-1 victory. The Richmond, B.C. native now sports a 1.85 goals-against average to go along with a .937 save percentage this season.
Gundarah played three seasons in the BCHL from 2021 to 2024, the first two with the Langley Rivermen and the third with the Surrey Eagles. In his final season, he led the league with a .931 save percentage, had the second-best goals-against average at 2.14 and helped guide the Eagles to their first Fred Page Cup championship since 2013. Gundarah was rewarded with the Michael Garteig Trophy as the league’s Top Goaltender.
Hockey East Defender of the Week
Joaquim Lemay – Junior – Northeastern University (Salmon Arm Silverbacks)
Lemay dished out two assists in a split weekend for Northeastern. He finished with three shots and six blocks, including a career-high five against Merrimack in a 2-1 win. He has now tallied six points in his last six games (two goals, four assists). He added three shots on net and had an even-rating against Providence.
Lemay spent the 2020-21 pod season with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and had 10 assists in 15 games. Following that campaign, he was selected in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals.
