We have reached the postseason in some NCAA Division I conferences, while others are just about to wrap up the regular season. This week, there were a total of seven former BCHL players recognized with weekly or monthly awards in college hockey and we recap it all in the latest NCAA Roundup.
Hockey Commissioners Association/NCHC Defenceman of the Month
Abram Wiebe – Junior – University of North Dakota (Chilliwack Chiefs)
Wiebe received both national and conference honours this month after leading all NCHC skaters and all NCAA defensemen with 11 points in February to help North Dakota to a 5-2-1 record. The Calgary Flames prospect scored two goals and dished out nine assists during the month. Wiebe recorded points in six of his eight games, including four multi-point outings, while also blocking 10 shots, which tied for third in the NCHC in February.
The Mission, B.C. native played three seasons with the Chilliwack Chiefs from 2020 to 2023 and was team captain his final year. He notched 95 points in 131 career regular-season games. In 2022-23, Wiebe led his team in scoring with 53 points, which was second among all BCHL blueliners, and was named the winner of the league’s Top Defenceman Trophy.
NCHC Goaltender of the Month
Johnny Hicks – Freshman – University of Denver (Merritt/Brooks)
Filling in for the injured Quentin Miller, Hicks backstopped Denver to an undefeated month with a 5-0-1 record. He started all six DU games in February and did not allow more than two goals in any of those outings, surrendering more than one goal just three times. Hicks led the NCHC with a 1.50 goals-against average in February, while ranking second with a .944 save percentage and averaging more than 25 saves per game (152 total saves in the month).
Hicks had two separate stints in the BCHL, the first with the Merritt Centennials from 2021 to 2023, then another with the Brooks Bandits for parts of two seasons in 2024 and 2025. He owns a career .913 save percentage in the BCHL with six shutouts and a 33-30-10 record across 80 regular season appearances.
NCHC Rookie of the Month
Jérémy Loranger (F) – Freshman – University of Nebraska-Omaha (Sherwood Park Crusaders)
Loranger led all NCHC freshmen with seven points last month, doing so in only six games for a 1.17 points-per-game average. The Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick scored three goals and added four assists in February, tallying a point in four of six games with two multi-point outings. He fired 21 shots on goal during the month, as well.
The 2007-born forward led the BCHL in points last year with 105 in 54 games with the Sherwood Park Crusaders, while his 40 goals were the most in the league and 11 more than second place. He was named the league’s Most Valuable Player at season’s end before being selected by the Blue Jackets in the seventh round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
Hockey East Player of the Week
Caelan Fitzpatrick (F) – Sophomore – Merrimack College (Brooks Bandits)
Fitzpatrick led the NCAA with six points on three goals and three assists in a 1-0-1 weekend against Vermont. He erupted for a five-point (two goals, three assists) outing on Friday, the most points in a single game in Hockey East play since 2024. He scored a shorthanded, power-play and game-winning goal, while adding two primary assists in the win. He also led all Hockey East skaters with eight blocked shots.
The 2003-born forward was part of the 2023-24 Bandits team that joined the BCHL midseason. He put up 13 points in 13 regular season games that year, then contributed 13 points in 12 postseason contests, helping Brooks win the Alberta Cup.
Atlantic Hockey Forward of the Week
Jack Stockfish – Junior – College of the Holy Cross (Prince George Spruce Kings)
Stockfish totaled six points last week in his team’s weekend sweep over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The junior forward had four points on Friday, scoring two goals and adding a pair of assists in a 5-1 victory. A night later, Stockfish chipped in with a goal and a helper in a 3-2 triumph.
Stockfish played the 2022-23 campaign with the Prince George Spruce Kings and put up 14 goals, 18 assists and 32 points in in 47 regular-season games.
Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week
Danick Leroux (G) – Freshman – College of the Holy Cross (Cranbrook Bucks)
Leroux claims Rookie of the Week honours after registering wins in back-to-back road games against RIT last weekend. On Friday, the 20-year-old netminder stopped 17 of 18 shots in his team’s 5-1 win, then a night later, he made 20 saves on 22 shots in a 3-2 victory. In his first collegiate season, Leroux now owns a 10-7-1 record with a .902 save percentage, a 2.66 goals-against average and two shutouts.
Leroux played 15 games with the Cranbrook Bucks during the 2023-24 campaign, posting a 6-4-1 record with an .893 save percentage.
ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week
Caton Ryan (F) – Freshman – Cornell University (Penticton Vees)
Ryan scored two goals, tallied one assist, and was plus-four on the weekend. Friday night, the freshman forward scored the third goal of the game in a 5-1 win over St. Lawrence. The next day, he scored the game’s first goal and later assisted on the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Clarkson. The rookie forward ends the regular season second on his team goals (11) and tied for second in points (27).
Ryan played the 2024-25 season with the Penticton Vees where he finished third in team scoring with 42 points in 44 games.
