Powell River pulls within one with Game 5 victory

The Powell River Kings lived to see another day in their bid for the franchise's first Fred Page Cup, returning home and defeating the Vernon Vipers in Game 5 by a 4-1 score on Friday night.

Clay Harvey scored a pair of goals for the home team, including the game winner just 10:13 into the first period. Neil Chambers had scored the opening goal six minutes earlier, and the Kings left the ice after 20 minutes with a 2-0 lead.

Sahir Gill continued his strong playoff performance with a second period marker that drew the Vipers within a goal. But the comeback stopped there, and Harvey and Reid Campbell scored late insurance goals to salt away the win.

Carsen Chubak was strong in net for Powell River, allowing just Gill's marker while turning aside 24 shots. Andrew Hammond allowed three goals at the other end of the ice — Harvey's second was an empty netter — on 36 Kings shots.

The teams now return to Vernon with the Vipers holding a 3-2 lead. Game 6 faces off at 7:00 PM from the Wesbild Centre.
