Powell River’s Chubak named BCHL Player of the Week

Powell River Kings goaltender Carsen Chubak has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 22nd, the league announced Monday.

Chubak faced a total of 83 shots in the Kings' first two games against the Victoria Grizzlies.

Of the 83 pucks that came his way Chubak turned down 76, leading Powell River to two overtime wins on the road in their conference finals series.

With two close games in which the Grizzlies outshot the Kings on both occasions, Chubak was the difference.

His save percentage has risen since the post season started, jumping from 90.66 per cent during the regular season to 95.05 per cent to lead all goalies still left standing in the 2008/09 BCHL playoffs.

Chubak and the Kings face off against the Grizzlies for game three Tuesday night, as the Kings try to continue their winning streak on home ice.
