Powell River’s Niddery commits to Sacred Heart

The Powell River Kings Junior `A’ Hockey Club is proud to announce that forward Chad Niddery has committed to attend NCAA Division I Sacred Heart University for the 2010/11 season. The Pioneers play in the Atlantic Hockey Conference.

Niddery, who is from Penticton, B.C., is in his third season with Powell River and he currently leads the Kings with 32 assists and is tied for the team points lead with 43.

“Chad has developed into a smart and dependable two-way player who can create space and opportunities for himself and his teammates with his outstanding speed,” said Kings head coach and general manager Kent Lewis. “His ability to play in all situations will make him a valuable player for the Pioneers.”

Niddery joins a growing list of Kings who have secured NCAA scholarships this season. Forward Matt Garbowsky and goaltender Josh Watson have each committed to the Rochester Institute of Technology, defenceman Justin Dasilva is heading to Holy Cross, and team captain Mat Bodie and recent acquisition Daniel Carr — who secured his scholarship while playing in the AJHL — have agreed to attend Union College.
