Read to Succeed a big hit for Powell River Kings

Powell River, BC – February 3, 2009 – First Insurance and the Powell River Kings Junior A Hockey Club have worked together over the past few months to promote reading at seven of the community's local public, Catholic and Christian grade schools.

The Powell River Kings have been reading at local students every Tuesday since October. Each week, three to four Kings players make the trip to a local school to play road hockey with the students and then head into designated classes to assist children in reading or to read aloud to them.

First Insurance and the Kings are proud to promote the importance of literacy within the community. First Insurance and the Kings challenged every elementary student in the school district to create and colour a poster depicting why reading will help them succeed.

At last Friday's game there were over 400 posters hanging up along the rink walls for all to see! Powell River's youth proved to be extra creative once again. Hector the Protector, Super Saver and First Insurance's Nancy Howlin gave away three prizes to winning students that same game.

Prizes included an ipod and cash for new books, a skate with the Kings for one entire class and a pizza party for an entire class with the team.
