Red Wings choose Cholowski

It became a record night for the BCHL when Chilliwack Chiefs defenceman Dennis Cholowski was scooped at No. 20 by the Detroit Red Wings Friday night at the NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo.

Cholowski’s selection made it three first-round picks this year for the BCHL, surpassing the record of two set in 2004 and 2007.

Detroit actually traded the rights to Pavel Datsyuk, who will likely play in Russia next year, to the Arizona Coyotes for the 20th pick and a selection later in the draft.
