Christian Sabin will be trading in his Merritt Centennials red for the red colours of the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Raiders next season as the 20-year-old has announced his commitment to the NCAA Div. III program for the 2019-20 season.
Sabin played in 102 regular-season games for Merritt over his two-year stint in the BCHL, totaling 22 goals and 30 assists for 52 points over that span. He’s coming off by far his most productive junior season where he had 37 points (15 goals, 22 assists) while playing all 58 games for the Centennials.
MSOE is an NCAA Div. III program, playing out of the National Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA), which consists of teams located in the mid-western United States. Other colleges in the conference include Adrian, Aurora, Concordia Wisconsin, Finlandia, Lake Forest, Lawrence, Marian, Northland, St. Scholastica, St. Norbert and Trine.
“We are very excited to have Christian commit to our program,” said Raiders head coach Graham Johnson in a release from the Centennials. “He is not only a talented player, but he has the character and competitiveness we are looking for in our student athletes.”
Sabin is the third current BCHL player to commit to an NCAA Division III program, joining Cowichan Valley Capitals goalie Pierce Diamond (Albert Magnus College) and Salmon Arm Silverbacks defenceman Sam MacBean (Hamilton College).
