Salmon Arm’s Statchuk commits to OSU

The Salmon Arm SilverBacks Junior “A” Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Travis Statchuk has secured an NCAA Division 1 scholarship to Ohio State University.

The scholarship begins in September 2011. Statchuk has just completed his first season with the SilverBacks and recorded 23 points in 33 games.

Prior to coming to Salmon Arm, Travis played for the Midget AAA Prince Albert Mintos where he added 72 points in 44 games. The five-foot-ten, 175 lb. forward from Wadena, Saskatchewan also won the Telus Cup in 2007 with the Mintos.

In 2008, Travis was selected to play for Team Canada West which captured the silver medal in Camrose, Alberta during the World Junior “A” Challenge.

“In my opinion, Travis is one of the fastest skaters in the BCHL. This past season has been very difficult on him due to injuries. Next year, we are confident to rely on him as a “go to guy” for our hockey club” commented GM/Head Coach Rylan Ferster.

“The SilverBacks organization is proud of our strong relationship with the NCAA. I am very pleased for Travis and his opportunity to play at Ohio State” said team owner Randy Williams.

The entire SilverBacks Hockey Club would like to congratulate Travis and his family on this great accomplishment.
