Schell and Burns bring Nanaimo from behind to top Cowichan Valley

The Nanaimo Clippers overcame an 0-for-9 spell on the power-play and a third period deficit, rallying from behind to clinch a 3-2 victory on the road in Cowichan Valley on Saturday night.

Cody Bremner opened the scoring for Nanaimo just 1:58 into regulation, converting a Nicholas MacIntyre feed past Capitals netminder Alex Peck. But Cowichan Valley tied the game on a Shayne Taker effort late in the period and went ahead on a second period power play goal by Anthony Perdicaro.

Carson Schell started the Clippers' comeback with an unassisted goal at the 7:38 mark of the third period, and Teal Burns scored the game winner with just over three minutes remaining.

Peck was busy all night in the Cowichan Valley goal, stopping 32 shots — including all 22 that he faced in the second period. Loic Boivin had to make just 12 saves in the win.

Schell, Peck and Burns were named the game's three stars.

Cowichan Valley now prepares for a Tuesday visit to Port Alberni, while the Clippers begin a brief road swing that same night in Salmon Arm.
