Nanaimo Clippers goaltender Eliot Séguin-Lescarbeau, Brooks Bandits goaltender Zach Zahara and Bandits forward Rylan Hue have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Eliot Séguin-Lescarbeau (G) – Nanaimo Clippers
Séguin-Lescarbeau faced a combined 83 shots over the opening two games of the Rogers BCHL Cup Finals last weekend and stopped 80 of them to post a .964 save percentage and a 1.18 goals-against average.
In Friday night’s series opener on the road, the 20-year-old netminder was the first star of the game after stopping 31 of 32 shots to help his team to a 3-1 win and an early series lead. The following night, Séguin-Lescarbeau made 49 saves on 51 shots in a 2-1 double overtime loss that evened up the series.
The St-Jérôme, Que. native now owns a .925 save percentage and a 2.17 goals-against average in 18 playoff games, both ranking fourth in the league.
2nd Star – Zach Zahara (G) – Brooks Bandits
Zahara went save for save with his opponent in the first two games of the championship series, stopping 73 of 76 shots over the two contests for a .961 save percentage and a 1.18 goals-against average.
In Game 1, the second-year Bandits netminder stopped 34 of the 36 shots he faced in a 3-1 loss to Nanaimo. On Saturday, Zahara was named first star of the game, stopping 39 of 40 shots in his team’s 2-1 double overtime win to even up the series.
The Rockyview, Alta. product has a 2.04 goals-against average in the playoffs, good enough for second in the league, while his .922 save percentage ranks fifth.
3rd Star – Rylan Hue (F) – Brooks Bandits
With offence at a premium over the first two games of the Rogers BCHL Cup Finals, Hue scored the biggest goal of the playoffs so far, potting the double overtime winner in Game 2 at home to even up the series at 1-1.
After having limited ice time in the two extra frames, the 2007-born forward went to the front of the net, took a centering pass from team captain Dante Sicilano and buried the game winner at the 12:51 mark of the second overtime period.
The overtime marker was his first goal and first point in 13 postseason games.
