Shaw BCHL Playoff Recap: Apr. 28

Alberni Valley Bulldogs – 9
Chilliwack Chiefs – 5

Ethan Bono and Brandon Buhr each had four-point nights as the Alberni Valley Bulldogs won a wild Game 1 9-5 over the Chilliwack Chiefs in the Coastal Conference Finals. The Bulldogs quickly went up 2-0 on goals by Owen Desilets and Jax Wismer, but Michael La Starza cut the lead to one, all within the first 5:32 of the game. Dakota MacIntosh restored the two-goal edge later in the period, but the Chiefs stormed back with three straight in the final 7:21 to lead 4-3 after one period. The lead didn’t last long as Alberni scored three straight of their own to start the second to take a 6-4 advantage after Matthew Maltais, Nicholas Beneteau and Brandon Buhr each found the back of the net before the midway point of the middle frame. Abram Wiebe scored for Chilliwack late in the second, but Alberni piled on three more in the third to make it a 9-5 final. Game 2 goes Saturday night back in Port Alberni.

Penticton Vees – 5
Salmon Arm Silverbacks – 1

The Penticton Vees won their ninth straight game this postseason, beating the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 5-1 in the first game of the Interior Conference Finals. Thomas Pichette, Dovar Tinling, Aydar Suniev, Josh Nadeau and Bradly Nadeau each had a goal and an assist in the win, while goaltender Luca Di Pasquo continued his solid playoff performance with 27 saves. Isaac Lambert scored the lone goal for the Silverbacks in the loss. Salmon Arm will look to regroup in Game 2 on Saturday night.
