Shaw BCHL Playoff Recap: Apr. 29

Penticton Vees – 6
Salmon Arm Silverbacks – 2

The Penticton Vees scored four first-period goals and never looked back as they beat the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 6-2 at home to take a two-game series lead. Brett Moravec opened the scoring after just 42 seconds of play, then Josh Nadeau potted a pair of goals 2:22 apart to make it 3-0 just over five minutes in. Hayden Stavroff got one back for Salmon Arm, but Bradly Nadeau scored shortly after to make it 4-1 after one. ‘Backs captain Nathan Mackie cut into the lead with his seventh of the postseason in the second period, but Bradly Nadeau replied with his second of the game and league-best 14th of the playoffs to restore the three-goal edge. Dovar Tinling’s goal 29 seconds into the final frame capped off the scoring. Both Nadeau brothers added two assists to their two goals to finish with four-point nights, while Aydar Suniev chipped in with three assists in the game. The teams reconvene for Game 3 Tuesday in Salmon Arm.

Alberni Valley Bulldogs – 2
Chilliwack Chiefs – 1

Campbell Arnold made 24 saves on 25 shots and Emanuelson Charbonneau’s goal with 1:56 to play stood up as the game winner as the Alberni Valley Bulldogs edged the Chililwack Chiefs 2-1 in Game 2 to take a 2-0 series lead. After a scoreless opening frame, Chiefs forward Brady Milburn scored his fourth of the playoffs to break the ice in the second period, but Zeke Nicholson tied it up less than three minutes later, setting the stage for Charbonneau’s late winner. Chilliwack goalie Lucas Szyszka stopped 29 of 31 shots in a losing effort. The Chiefs will look to rebound back at home in Game 3 on Tuesday night.
