Silverbacks’ Grassi commits to Michigan State

Salmon Arm Silverbacks defenceman Matt Grassi has committed to attend Michigan State University next fall, the club announced Friday.

Grassi is currently in his third season with the SilverBacks. His scholarship offer comes fresh off his silver medal performance with Team Canada West at the World Junior “A” Challenge in Camrose, Alberta.

Matt is from Burnaby, BC and has grown into a solid two-way defenseman. In 21 games so far this season, Grassi has scored four times and added 20 assists for 24 points. Last season, Grassi notched 23 points in 53 games.

“Matt can play at both ends of the rink and knows how to use his strength and size,” Silverbacks head coach Rylan Ferster says. “His play in the defensive zone is outstanding.”

“I am very pleased the Silverbacks were a helpful stepping stone for Matt to further his hockey career,” Silverbacks owner Randy Williams says. “Our league is all about education and scholarships. This is a great opportunity for Matt.”

The entire organization would like to congratulate Matt and his family on this great accomplishment.
