With the start of the 2008-09 regular season just 24 hours away, the Prince George Spruce Kings selected their captains and jersey numbers on Wednesday. In a ballot form selection process, Zach Davies was the overwhelming choice for team captain with Sam Muchalla, Matt Lees and Brandon Busse picking up the roles of assistant captains.
Davies, who dressed in every game for the Spruce Kings during the 2007/08 season, is entering his third full season with the team. His 33 points last year were tops amongst Prince George blueliners.
At 18 years old, sophomore forward Sam Muchalla is the youngest of the team's four captains.
“It's a honour that the team has faith in my abilities and looks up to me as a leader,” he said. “I think everyone is a leader in their own way and I want to lead by example.”
“The letter doesn't mean I am going to change the way I play and I don't think it brings extra pressure. I have dealt with pressure in the past and being looked at as a go-to-guy is going to bring its own pressure, I just have to play the game I have been playing.”
