Spruce Kings take Game 1

New series, new opponent but it’s another win for the Prince George Spruce Kings – their 14th in a row – as they opened the Doyle Cup with a 2-0 victory over the host Brooks Bandits.

Ben Poisson stayed hot for PG, scoring what would be the winner just 59 seconds into the first period. After leading the BCHL playoffs in goals with 13, he continued his torrid pace with Prince George’s first-ever goal in the Doyle Cup.

It would be all the scoring in the game until the 13:18 mark of the second when Max Coyle scooped up a loose puck in the neutral zone, skated into Brooks territory and beat Bandits goalie Pierce Charleson with a low wrister that provided some insurance.

Logan Neaton was flawless on the night, making all 30 saves for a shutout which was his third since the end of the BCHL regular season.

Game 2 is set for Saturday in a 6 p.m. PT faceoff from Brooks.
