Top NHL prospects heading to Bear Mountain

Top National Hockey League draft pick Steven Stamkos isn't likely to suit up for the Victoria Grizzlies anytime soon, but Vancouver Island hockey fans will have the opportunity to see the highly-touted soon-to-be pro and others in action next week when the Tampa Bay Lightning hold their summer prospects camp at Bear Mountain Arena.

The Lightning, whose common bond with the BCHL's Grizzlies is owner and former NHLer Len Barrie, will kick off camp on Monday with off-ice conditioning sessions and twice-daily practices. Evening scrimmages will run Tuesday to Thursday at 6 pm.

“This is a great week for the players to get their first taste of the Lightning organization,” team vice-president Brian Lawton said. “The focus of the camp is on-ice skill development, off-ice training, nutrition, and, in general, what it takes and means to be a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning.”
