Two-goal night for Garbowsky leads Powell River past Grizzlies

The Powell River Kings jumped out to a commanding first period lead and held on late for a double overtime victory over the Victoria Grizzlies on home ice Saturday night. The Kings opened the scoring midway through the first period on a Darcy Huisman power-play effort, and doubled the lead minutes later when Matt Garbowsky netted a shorthanded goal past Grizzlies starter Ryan Holfield. Justin DaSilva then extended the lead to three goals with an even strength tally two minutes before intermission.Following a scoreless second period, the Grizzlies rebounded in the third with a rally started by a Brandon Fagerheim power-play marker. Alex Allan then scored a pair of goals in the span of 2:23 to tie the game, capping the comeback on the man advantage at the 15:56 mark of the period.Powell River would ultimately grab the victory, however, as Garbowsky scored his second of the night with just a minute remaining in double overtime off a feed from Huisman. Garbowsky was named the game's first star following a three-point night. The Grizzlies now return home to host the Langley Chiefs on Sunday afternoon, while Powell River is idle until next Saturday when they travel to visit the Merritt Centennials.
