Over three seasons with the Victoria Grizzlies, Cody Van Lierop increased his contribution each year and took on captaincy duties this past campaign.
That growth and leadership will serve him well in the coming season as he takes his game to the University of Ottawa and USports hockey with the school’s men’s hockey team, the Gee Gees.
Van Lierop posted a career high in points last season with 33, which included 29 assists. The native of Sutton West, Ont. captained the Grizzlies to the third round of the BCHL playoffs and posted a goal and nine helpers in 18 playoff contests.
With the Gee Gees, Van Lierop will be joining a USports program that went 15-13 last season after a 1-7 start to the campaign. The team went 13-3 during a stretch from Nov. 5 to Jan. 27.
The University of Ottawa competes in USports’ Ontario University Athletics-West division along with Carleton, McGill, Concordia, Queen’s, UQTR, Nipissing, RMC, Laurentian and UOIT. Former Nanaimo Clippers forward Jacob Hanlon is also on the Gee Gees roster.
