January was a highly productive month for Penticton Vees grad and University of Denver senior defenceman Joey Laleggia.
So much so that it earned him a share of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's (NCHC) player of the month award. Laleggia shares it with St. Cloud State junior forward Jonny Brodzinski.
Laleggia tallied three goals and seven assists in January. Two of his goals were game-winners and he finished a +3 for the month. The Edmonton Oilers 2012 draft pick helped the Pioneers go 5-4-1 for the month.
Other January highlights include points in seven of the 10 games Denver played, 35 shots on net and an assist on the Jan. 23 game-winner in a 3-1 victory over then No. 9-ranked Miami.
The Burnaby, BC product now has nine goals and 13 assists on the season to put him third in team scoring. He leads the Pioneers with 89 shots on goal.
In two seasons with the Vees, Laleggia scored 33 goals and 114 assists for 147 points in 114 career games over two seasons.
