No matter the outcome of the two games set for Thursday, the Penticton Vees know they’ve got a spot in the RBC Cup semifinals Saturday thanks to their most recent victory which was a 4-0 win over the Trenton Golden Hawks.
Ty Amonte’s goal at the 4:30 mark of the first period turned out to be all the offensive support Mat Robson would need as he made 21 saves for the shutout.
Nic Jones added on in the second with Massimo Rizzo also tallying in the middle frame, a power-play marker with under a minute left.
In the third, it was Grant Cruikshank rounding out the Vees scoring with a goals just past the midway mark of the final frame.
For Trenton, the loss eliminates them from the tournament. All that remains to be seen is what order the other four teams finish in. Penticton still has a chance to take top spot in the round robin but they’d need a win in regulation time over Terrebonne tomorrow combined with a Brooks loss in regulation to Cobourg.
